Friday was our 13th anniversary for Venue King's ticket brokers. I usually just go to the next year and don’t really think about it but for some reason, after Covid almost tried to bankrupt us, I'm feeling nostalgic.
It forces me to think about all the people who have trusted me to come work here. Not only have they put in the time to do a great job, but they have gone out of their way to make a positive experience for our customers. Most of all though, this anniversary reminds me of so many great memories. The staff trips, the office lunches, the 5 different times we have had to move the office. Starting with nothing, having banks not wanting to give us credit cards, to coming out of covid and feeling like we have the right team going forward to lead us in the right direction.
They don’t tell you when you start a business that most of the things you try will fail miserably. People think it behind your back and think you will fail for sure but they don’t tell you that it's really hard. On social media, building a business looks easy, but in reality, executing is very hard. We have had so many repivots over the years - I feel like there have been many times we have been Ross and Chandler trying to make our way up the stairs with the sofa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_PWbnHABsM
It looks weird sometimes, it sounds weird, and it feels weird. My wife sent me a quote on Instagram today that said, “I really believe that entrepreneurship is about being able to face failure, manage failure and succeed after failing”, From Kiran Mazumdar-Shar.
I think that sums up the last 13 years: adversity is coming, most things go wrong, keep going, and eventually, it hopefully works out in the end. If somehow it doesn’t work out, that’s okay too, keep going anyway. On to the next thing, on to the next year. #14 should be a fun one, just trying to sell some tickets!
